Chief Lynn Price announced today that William R. (Russ) Kelly of Bolivar has been named the 2020 Firefighter of the Year for the Bolivar Fire Department. Russ joined the department on January 4, 2019, as a volunteer firefighter, and achieved certification through the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy (TFACA) in February 2019. He was hired as a career firefighter with the department on May 2, 2019, and completed the Engineer course requirements in November 2019.

“During Russ’ tenure with the department, he has excelled in all of his fire service operations courses and training. He has provided countless hours of service in fire suppression and operational support roles, and has demonstrated his commitment to our community by providing quality public fire safety education programs to the public. His willingness to serve in every facet of the department’s operations has earned him this most prestigious honor,” said Fire Chief Lynn Price.

The award was presented to Russ during a small, informal gathering on Friday, December 4, 2020, with his family and fellow firefighters present.
