Bolivar, TN 12/13/2019: The Bolivar Fire Department honored two individuals during the department’s Christmas gathering on Thursday, December 12, 2019.
The department presented the 2019 Firefighter of the Year Award to William Turner of Bolivar. William joined the department on September 27, 2017, as a volunteer firefighter. He was hired to fill a career position with the department on May 11, 2018. On October 28, 2019, William transferred to the Bolivar Police Department to pursue his lifelong dream of serving the community as a law enforcement officer.
“During William’s tenure with the department, he excelled in his fire service operation courses. William provided countless hours of support in every facet of the department’s operation. From emergency responses to public events to fire safety education programs, William demonstrated his love for his community by taking the lead to educate the public on fire safety topics. His support of our department is further demonstrated through his willingness and desire to continue his service as a volunteer firefighter,” said Fire Chief Lynn Price.
The department also honored Mrs. Antionette Price of Bolivar with the 2019 Community Service Award for her commitment and dedication to the department through volunteer service hours. Mrs. Price has assisted the department in the installation of smoke alarms during community canvasses, has worked with the department every year at the Fire & Emergency Services Festival, and has provided invaluable support by spearheading her employer’s volunteer assistance program during department sponsored events.
“We are a small department and can not fulfill the hundreds of hours of community engagement events without the support of local citizens. We thank Mrs. Price for her service to our department and to the citizens of Bolivar,” said Chief Price.
