On August 23, 2024, Mayor McTizic and the City of Bolivar launched its Safe Streets Initiative in partnership with the Bolivar Police Department. The Bolivar Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF) is a collaborative law enforcement initiative dedicated to enhancing public safety in our community. The SSTF unites federal, state, and local agencies to address violent crime, gang activity, and drug trafficking within the community.
The Safe Streets Task Force operates with eight (8) members from the Bolivar Police Department, working different periodic shifts to combat gang and violent crime in the City of Bolivar and to provide extra protection during city wide events throughout the year. The members of the task force are all deputized with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and complete specialized trainings throughout the year to better serve the citizens of Bolivar.
Since the implementation of the SSTF in August of 2024, the task force has issued 272 traffic citations, 24 misdemeanor citations for driving on revoked/suspended driver license, made 34 arrests, including 19 felony drug arrests, seized 21 firearms, including three stolen firearms, and has recovered two (2) stolen vehicles.
The Safe Streets Task Force is led by Captain Chris Burkeen of the Bolivar Police Department. “I would like to thank Chief Jones and Mayor McTizic for their continued support of the task force and reducing violent crime in the City of Bolivar,” said Captain Burkeen.
Through collaborative efforts and strategic enforcement activities, the SSTF continues to work towards a safer and more secure community for the residents of Bolivar.
