Middle school aged students were again treated to a week-long day camp known as Camp Bolivar from July 16 - 19, 2024. The purpose of the camp is to educate students on how local government works, how government interacts with local businesses and residents, how local businesses affect our economy, and the differences between local and county government.
Participating in the 2024 camp were all of the city's departments including police, fire, utility, and streets/sanitation, Bolivar Energy Authority, Centennial Bank, West Tennessee Health Care-Bolivar General Hospital, Hospital Wing, Bolivar Ford, Hardeman County EMS, 575 Sports, Hardeman County Government, WMOD 96.7, Luez Theater, 20 Below, Bolivar-Hardeman County Library, and Bolivar Parks & Recreation Department. Mayor McTizic led the camp as he has done for the last 5 years.
"We appreciate our staff and local business partners who dedicate their time and personnel to assisting us in this endeavor. They are responsible for making this camp a success, not me, said Mayor McTizic. We are already planning Camp Bolivar 2025 which we expect will be even more successful. The time we spend now investing in our youth will pay dividends long into our future and is essential to the future of our city."
